Field Notes

Description:

I went outside, to check on my outdoor butterfly garden. I saw three, Gulf Fritillary Pupae, attached to one of there host plants. One pupa, was seven eights of an inch long, and three eights of an inch wide. The color of this pupa, was different shades of brown. Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Lepidoptera Family: Nymphalidae Genus: Agraulis Species: A. vanilliae Size ( Adult, Length ): 65mm to 80mm ( 2.56in to 3.15in ). Identifying Colors: orange, white, black, brown, and silver. Common Name: Gulf Fritillary Butterfly Other Names: Longwing Butterfly.

Habitat:

At home in most open, sunny habitats. It frequents roadsides, disturbed sites, fields, open woodlands, pastures, yards, and parks.

Notes:

I spotted three, Gulf Fritillary Pupae, attached to one of there host plants, in my outdoor butterfly garden.
