Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this White-headed capuchin monkey while riding in the back of a pickup truck in rural Costa Rica. Banging on the cab, I got the driver to stop for this one picture.

Habitat:

The capuchin is perched in a fern-covered palm tree. The surrounding habitat was a tree-lined creek-bottom surrounded by some pasture grazed by humped cattle and nearby forested hills, about halfway between Puerto Jiminez and the west coast of the Osa.

Notes:

Nowadays they discourage riding in the backs of pickups -- I never could have gotten this shot from inside a resort van......the good old days!
