Olive Leaf Fig
Ficus oleifolia
6.00217, 116.601
Field Notes
Description:
A common montane fig species. Growing as a short shrub or small epiphyte usually less than 1m tall. Fruits are smooth and hard. This species is incredibly variable. The morph in this observation has flatter pointed leaf with more intricate patterns and spots. Other forms that I have seen have rounded thicker leaves.
Habitat:
Growing abundantly in the montane rainforest of Sabah usually low on the forest floor.
Notes:
The name comes from some of the forms which have leaves like olive plant leaves. Borneo have over 150 wild fig species and my team (1StopBorneo Wildlife) is actively documenting the native figs and understanding its ecological role to aid our reforestation projects.
