Field Notes

Description:

This specimen has a shiny purplish color to the forwings with a distinctive patterning towards the base; a black mark resembling the Hebrew letter nun (נ) with a pale cream-coloured area adjacent to this mark. The hindwings are cream-coloured. Family Noctuidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

The larva of this moth feeds on everything but the kitchen sink!
