Red-necked False Blister Beetle
Asclera ruficollis
37.3942, -97.2812
Field Notes
Description:
A specimen of the red-necked false blister beetle. Identified for me by the friend I'm staying with. There where a lot of them in his barn. Apparently these guys have the same chemical in them as regular blister beetles, which when coming into contact with human skin causes blisters. Hence the name. Otherwise harmless. As I do not like to harm animals I did not test its properties for myself.
Habitat:
Found in North America.
