Chocolate Albatross ♂

The male Chocolate Albatross, Appias lyncida andrea Eschscholtz 1821 (Pieridae; Pierinae) has white upperside, with its forewings and hindwings showing black teeth-like markings. Its hindwing's underside is bright yellow bordered with dark chocolate coloration. The ssp. A. l. andrea occurs in the Philippine islands of Lubang, Luzon, Marinduque, Mindoro, and Mindanao.

Adults of Appias may be seen congregating in large numbers on moist sand or muddy areas adjacent to streams, drinking fluid. In the 4th photo, the Chocolate Albatrosses can be seen mudpuddling with a Lemon Emigrant (Catopsilia pomona pomona Fabricius 1775) and Forest Whites (Appias aegis illana C. & R. Felder 1862).
