Field Notes

Description:

This lovely peavine has flowers about ¾ inch in diameter, and shiny green leaves 1-2" long. The vine on this particular specimen was several feet long, snaking through the sand. It makes a colorful accent against the brillant white sand. I think it is a Lathyrus, but I couldn't find any examples that looked as though they exactly the same flower.

Habitat:

It was growing in coral sand mixed with dead bleached sea grass on Ambergris Caye near the Ak'bol Yoga Retreat & Eco Resort, above the high tide line.
