Description:

Also known as guan-old (Rio Grande do Sul), dusky-legged guan, guan and jacupixuna. Deforestation and indiscriminate hunting dramatically reduced the population of this species.<br><br>

Southern species of large size, measuring 68-75 centimeters and weighing 1000-1200 grams (SIGRIST, T., 2009). very dark green-bronze color; mantle, neck and chest finely striated white; anegradas legs. The male has a red iris, unlike the female. Species large and noisy. Notable for strange and very strong noise it produces with its wings while flying.

Habitat:

Inhabits secondary forests, secondary forests, plantations and gallery forests (high forest). Lives in southeastern and southern Brazil, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande do Sul; Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia. In Rio de Janeiro is in the mountains, in São Paulo in the Serra do Mar and the coast.
