Field Notes

Description:

a grasshopper in the family Eumastacidae. Monkey hoppers are brightly colored grasshoppers, green metallic with blue head and black stripes on the tail

Habitat:

Wet tropical forests, spotted at Taman Lembah Kiara, close to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Notes:

They also have the odd nickname of “matchstick grasshoppers”, probably because their long hind legs always seem to be awkwardly sized for their bodies, and stick out to the side all akimbo.
