Description:
Brunoniella australis, commonly known as "blue trumpet" and "blue yam", is an Australian native in the family Acanthaceae. A widespread herbaceous plant, found in moist areas of eucalyptus woodland and forest, particularly on sloping ground. It is a small plant that grows up to 30 cm in height. Flowers blue to mauve, tubular, with 5 petals, 2 cms in diameter. Usually found along the coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands, mainly north from Jervis Bay in NSW, to FNQ and NT.
Habitat:
Toohey Forest is a remnant eucalyptus woodland reserve of approximately 655 hectares. The forest is situated within an urban area on the south side of Brisbane, within the city limits. This spotting was by the side of the walking track, in the riparian zone along one of the creeks. Usually moist and well-shaded area, covered with leaf and bark litter from large eucalypts and shrubs.
Notes:
Here's a spotting I found about a week later, out past Ipswich at the Purga Nature Reserve. Same species, but a more vibrant blue colour by comparison.... https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/59192623 A species I had never seen before, then I spot two plants of the same species, over 50 kms apart, within only a few days of each other.
