Field Notes

Description:

This Octopus was spotted during a night dive in front of the Resort I was staying at, at very shallow waters of just around 1 meter. It was coming out to hunt, going after some crabs hiding under the rocks.

Quite a common Octopus in Philippines and probably, mostly seen at night when it comes out to hunt for food. Unlike other Octopi, this Octopus does not change color too much, it is bright red/brown in color with speckles of white/light spots. It can grow to quite big, with the body of 1 feet or more and long arms.

Habitat:

Sandy and sea grass bottom or among coral rubbles in the shallow waters.
