Field Notes

Habitat:

Big cherry tree teeming with its fruit surrounded by thick forest.

Notes:

Spotted this beauty, and its friends, in the morning feeding on only partially ripe cherry. Unlike smaller birds which bite on the fruit, this one swallows them whole. An effort's been made to show as many angles of the body of the bird as possible.

UPDATE for Dr. Sherpa. The Seaside show is from April 30-May 30,2016. The painting pictures will be taken down after that.
Dr. Sherpa, if you want to entertain yourself and have few minutes to spare. Go to a website www. seasideart.com and on the front page on top click "artwork" it will have a drop down menu when you see "miniature" click on it. It will bring a page full of miniature paintings arranged alphabetically by names of artists. Go to C and look for my last name. Your bird is one of the three paintings we are allowed to send. The bird is proudly standing on a branch and your name is mentioned on the back of the painting but you won't be able to see it though. It says This is done by permission of Dr Namgyal T. Sherpa, photographer.
Thank you Dr. Sherpa for being so nice and supportive. I am glad to run into you.
Congrats Sandra, for being selected as member of such a prestgious society; and wishing you best of luck for the North Carilina Exhibit!
Hi Dr. Sherpa, Sorry I did not get in touch with you sooner. It was accepted for the show in Washington, D.C. which ran from Nov. 22nd, 2015- Jan. 3rd, 2016. 29. It did not win any award nor a purchase. I am thinking about sending it to another show in North Carolina in April. In fact, getting in to the show in Washington is an honor enough because it is a prestigious society being the oldest Miniature Society, the first one in America. I was invited to be its member which requires three years of showing your art there and they allow only three paintings per year. All paintings you sent have to be accepted each year. So I am proud to be its member. The North Carolina show is running from April 30-May,30,2016. It normally takes 30 days after show closing before the send your unsold paintings back to you. Will report how it goes. Thanks for all your help and interest.
Sandra Chotechuang. Hi Sandra! No hear since the last interact! How did it go? I mean the exhibition and the results? Just curious!
My best wishes for the exhibition of your miniature art of the Silver-Eared Mesia, Sandra!
Correction, There are over 700 pieces from artists all over the world. Each artist is allowed to send in maximum of three pieces of work.
That's a fantastic news Sandra! I'm so happy. And best of luck for the exhibition! Pl keep me updated.
Dear Dr. Sherpa. Just want to let you know, my painting of the Silver-eared Mesia has been inspected by five jurors and accepted into the Exhibition at the Mansion at Strathmore, North Bethesda, Maryland along with 700+artists from all over the world. The Exhibition runs from November 22,205-January 3, 2016. Thank you again for your kind permission for me to use your photo for my Miniature painting.
Amazing !- Thanks for sharing these great photos with us,Dr Sherpa.
You are welcome Sandra. Pl let me know how it would have gone.
I didn't have any clue that it's has gone viral already! The Exhibitions occur at end of year November-December at one place and in January at another, so it will be awhile. And yes, I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for being so kind.
Thanks Sandra for the info. Yes, I realized that this photo's being 'shared' by almost 200,000 and 'liked' by more than 60,000 people on the FB! Mostly, they don't ask for permission. Anyway best of luck for your Exhibition. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks Dr Sherpa for acknowledging my e-mail and a copy of my painting. I owed it to your generosity. BTW, your photo of this exquisite bird has been popping up in Facebook. The first posting was from someone with foreign language with a webpage called" Scienze's Fanpage Pnoto". On the "About" page there is a line mentioning: Media/News/Publishing.). They seem to post variety of subjects including flowers, animals and misc. news. They look like a personal site, not an organization. I hope they have contacted you for permission to post your photo which has been shared all over FB. Anyhow, I am going to send my painting to the Miniature Exhibitions either in Washington, D.C. or the one in Florida where I live. Best regard.

I love this exquisite bird.......I see that you have generously granted permission to paint this bird. May I include an image inspired by your photograph as part of a painting I am working on? Jan Harrison http://www.janharrison.net
As long as you're giving permission to paint this gorgeous little bird, I hope you will grant it to me, also. You are very generous. I don't believe I've ever seen such a beautiful bird. May I do a painting from you photo? Jean-Marie Chapman Www.jeanmarieportraits.com

Dr Sherpa, thank you for this picture of the most beautiful little bird I have ever seen! With your permission I would like to draw it, also I would send you a print of it after I'm done.Thank you and I am looking forward to seeing more of your sightings. Deborah Sanders.
Thanks so much Dr. Sherpa for your generosity. I will send you a copy as soon as it is completed. It will take awhile since I have to complete my cat painting for my class. (am a student not teacher). Then will paint the bird which may take 6-8 weeks if not sooner. I will look up your e-mail address which I think I saw it in one of the comments. Thanks again and please have a nice and prosperous New Year.-Sandra C.
Hi Sandra, nice to know that you like painting! Oil and miniature could be quite a task! From tip of beak to tail-end could be approximately 130 mm. As per permission: pl go ahead and paint. Pl post me a copy. Best of luck and thanks.
