Field Notes

Description:

This looks like a type of lichen that litters a lot of the stones and trees on campus. I was trying to research what kind of moss it is specifically, but I can't determine an exact name. It is waxy looking yet crusty light dull green on the surface. On the tree branch, it has leaf like growths coming out.

Habitat:

This rock and branch are outside the Campus Gymnasium. Found on rocks and trees around campus grounds.

Notes:

I believe it to be a Crustose Lichen fungi or some kind of Lecanora growing on the rock and branch. Any help is much appreciated! These could also be different species or different kinds of organisms.

Thank you Machi, I will try and get a better quality picture soon!
I see you mentioned lichens in your notes. Lichens are not mosses, not plants at all actually, but rather they are algae or cyanobacteria in symbiosis with a fungi. If you manage to get a closer image I might attempt an ID, but I can say Lecanora is not likely for either of these images and that these are two different species of lichen.
