Field Notes

Description:

I have found this plant in the Singapore American School rainforest, but they are also all over my condo. It really depends on how big these plants can be, big or small. But one thing I noticed that they all have is brown tuff on the back of the leaves and they are the spores of the plant. The fern produces plentiful spores which are dispersed by wind for proliferation, (Rapid increase in the number or amount of something.) I posted a picture above, and they cover most of the back leaves with about 1 inch of green on the sides of the leaves. Inside of them is only dirt and a few plants sometimes. They are really pretty! I never noticed they were all over my condo, but today when I was walking around, I saw so many and I had to stop and take a picture for Project Noah!

Great description! That brown tuff on the back of the leaves are the spores of the plant. Try checking out more ferns and find out what the spores do!
