Grey-headed Swamphen

Almost the size of a small chicken, this colorful bird was considered a subspecies of the purple swamphen, but was elevated to full species status in 2015. They clamber through the reeds, eating the tender shoots and vegetation. They also eat eggs, ducklings, small fish and invertebrates such as snails. As seen in the pair picture, the male is more robust compared with the slender built female.
