Field Notes

Description:

This hawk has been preying on doves in our yard. He swoops down and grabs them up. It is pretty scary to see, but he is a majestic bird!

Habitat:

Suburb- backyard

Notes:

We have seen him several times now... usually notice him when the birds all of a sudden stop singing.

I don't have a picture of the legs, but we think it was about 1 1/2 - 2 feet tall...
It's an Accipiter genus hawk, either Cooper's or Sharp-shinned (leaning Cooper's based of GISS, but the thicker streaking on the chest may suggest Sharp-shinned). I don't suppose you have any shots where we can see the legs? How large would you say it was?
