Field Notes

Description:

A low, somewhat kairy perennial. Leaves in basal tuft, sparsely hairy to hairless, oval to triangular-heart-shaped, rounded, dark green, often with convex margins, stipules shortly fringed. Flowers violet or mauve, 13-15 mm, fragrant.

Habitat:

Damp and shaded places, among rocks and bushes, close to streams, not at sea level. Spotted in beech and chestnut forest of mount Chortiatis (Thessaloniki, Greece).

Notes:

Greek name: Ίον το εύοσμον. Greek common name: Μενεξές.
