Field Notes
Description:
•They are closely related to the wood duck.
•They eat plants, seeds, snails, insects, small fish, worms, mollusks and small snakes.
•They nest in cavities in trees close to water. When the ducklings hatch, their mother flies to the ground and coaxes the ducklings to leap from the nest. After all of the ducklings are out of the tree, they will follow their mother to a nearby body of water.
Habitat:
Dense, shrubby forested edges of rivers and lakes, marshes, flooded fields, open rivers, coastal lagoons and estuaries, water meadows, cultivated areas with woods nearby
-I saw this duck in Potsdam(Germany)
