Field Notes

Description:

The elegant Demoiselle Crane breeds in Central Asia and the bulk of the populations winters in India. The largest aggregations of this bird are at the tiny village of Keechan in India's Rajasthan State where several families have been feeding these birds for generations. 30,000 of them used to gather here however the numbers have dwindled and now between 7-10,000 gather each morning and evening, an impressive and very noisy spectacle nevertheless.
