Description:

Unknown wasp/ fly? Very colorful (as you can see), diurnal and holding still enough to take a fairly good close-up photo.

Habitat:

Secondary growth rainforest.

Located in the region of the Napo River in the Orient of Ecuador. Coordinates: 00° 50.588'S, 077° 14.011' W at an elevation of 365m. Yachana Lodge.

Hi hoppy4840, That's why I stopped at the genus level. I don't know enough to comment further - but it might help to look closely at Coreid bugs - some have interesting antennal segments. Hello Leuba: Other than the shape of the antennae it looks similar to "D" in your reference web site. Now I wish that I had taken a picture of the insect's mouth parts.
Handsome ! I am wondering if it is an assassin bug or some sort of bug - just something about the size & shape of the head and the thorax. The fascinating antennae appear to have about 5 segments ??
