Field Notes

Description:

This amazing moth is about 1 cm long and even it's behavior was more wasp-like than a moth, even in the drumming movement of the antennae.
Family Erebidae, Subfamily Arctiinae. I've never seen this before in Chiapas.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Awesome photo Lauren... I have to hone my photography skills! Problem is I'm a bit shaky these days (one of the problems of age, it seems!) and I can't get it together to carry a tripod as well as everything else!
Extraordinary moth! It looks like an Ichneumon wasp. Great spot and photo Lauren!
Thank you so much Telse and Leuba. It really is an extraordinary moth! Couldn't believe it was real when I saw it.
Actually, this is awesome Lauren.
Very Nice Lauren.
Thank you bayucca for the identification. I can't find any records for Mexico, but it has been collected in Atitlán, Guatemala which is not far from here and not that different in habitat.
That's an amazing and beautiful moth. Congratulations.
Excellent moth!
Arctiidae, Ctenuchinae, Isanthrene sp. and most probably Isanthrene felderi. Please, verify!
