Description:
The plant is 50-140 cm tall, erected, turned. Lower stalk leaves on petioles, ovate. Upper leaves, arrowheads, covering the stem. Flowers numerous, yellow, collected in canopy-shaped inflorescences. Antropofit - on the Polish lands came along with the development of the commercial route Via Regia,
Habitat:
Roadside, quarries, embankments, vineyards, dry grasslands, rudimentary sites on limestone soils, rich in nitrogen.
Notes:
One of the oldest known man-made barberry plants. The office was brought to Europe already in antiquity due to the high content of blue indigo dye which is extracted from the leaves. The fermenting dye produces a repulsive odor.
It comes from the steppe areas of south-east Europe, from the Caucasus, Asia Minor. It is present in almost all of Europe, mostly as a fungicide from crops.
