Field Notes

Description:

the moth was facing into the sun so in order to get a shot that wasn't mostly silhouette, I used my flash as in the first photo, second photo is with natural light.

Habitat:

primary rainforest

Notes:

This was one of those one time spots. Just see it once, get a couple photos if you're lucky and then it's gone. Never to be seen again. I've had many of these are staying in a place for a while, but I also start to learn what is more common. I really noticed that this year, especially in the Amazon and the cloudforest, where I spent most of my time in Colombia.

Thyrididae, Draconia sp., looks similar as Draconia peripheta. But I would go with Draconia sp.
Amazing! It is like an eaten leaf! Like the damage leaf beetles do.
