Description:
Coreutis cf. periploca from the Metalmark Moth Family: Choreutidae Stainton, 1854. For me to attempt a description of this moth would be laughable. The beautiful colours and markings are just too complex for my descriptive skills. I can, perhaps, be forgiven if I invoke the old addage "A picture is worth a thousand words". The Identification Coreutis cf. periploca came from https://philepidoptera.wixsite.com/moths/choreutidae. Over the years, I have found their approach to identification to be rock solid.
Habitat:
This moth was spotted on foliage growing on a fence at the edge of a rice field. Just on the other side of the fence was the backyard of a house where the owners were burning some branches and leaves after trimming their trees. The fire was crackling and sparking a few feet away from the moth which seemed unperturbed. So I thought this was my chance to get a decent number of pictures. But just like all the other Metalmarks I have tried to photograph, this one was camera-shy and disappeared lightning fast. These two pictures were all I managed to get. I often wonder why some moths and butterflies are less tolerant of human presence than others. Any suggestions?
