Field Notes

Description:

The Australian ringneck is a medium sized parrot that averages about 11 inches (33 cm) in length. The coloration of these birds vary, but the basic color is green with a yellow ring around the back of the neck. The tail and wings are a mix of blue and green. Australian ringnecks spend the morning and late afternoon looking for food. They feed mainly on the ground. They eat fruit, grain, insects, larvae, seeds, and nectar.

Habitat:

These birds are found in open woodlands, and also small timbered areas along bodies of water. For the most part, Australian ringnecks stay in the same area as long as food and nesting areas are available. Some will move seasonally to look for food or nesting sites.
