Field Notes

Description:

Out on a lizard hunt at night with my flashlight, I spotted this basilisk lizard lounging on a palm frond near the wading pool at a Jungle Lodge. It's a young one, without the adult's fringed hairdo, approximately 14" long.

Habitat:

These lizards hang around streams and rivers in Central America and I have seen them racing across a little lagoon next to a Pacific beach a few hundred yards from the location where I took this photo.

Notes:

It didn't stick around long enough for another photo, but slipped down the stem and disappeared into the shrubbery.
