Description:

Habitat:

This Black Bean Bug was spotted in our vegetable plot on String Beans (Vigna unguiculata), known in the Philippines as Sitaw. Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/Sitaw......

Notes:

Wikipedia's article on Brachyplatys subaeneus mentions that the females tend to deposit their eggs in hidden places, on or near their host plants, but that is not the case, as you can see, with this bug. It is depositing its raft of eggs on a vertical leaf, albeit on the underside), So, I saw it from a short distance away. However, maybe the bug is smarter than I think. The leaf is small and still growing. When it becomes a little larger (perhaps within 24 hours), it will droop, under its own weight and the bugs will then be much more difficult to see.
