Field Notes

Description:

Extra fluffy bee with pale blue-green stripes on abdomen (bluer in real life, light was poor, shot on a mobile phone), golden brown thorax, and pale eyes.
An important pollinator of Australian crops, through 'buzz polination'.

Habitat:

Found at dusk on lavender shrub in suburban backyard garden. Known to favour blue flowers. Short range of 300m.

Notes:

Seemed reluctant to move, stayed completely still, huddled up on leaf probably for the night. This behavior in addition to the number of complete stripes (5), means it was a male bee.
