Field Notes

Description:

This Hippo pod were keeping cool in the heat of the day by wallowing in one of the large ponds of Lake Manyara, they all seemed to be lazing around not really moving and occassionally yawning which may give off a false impression of them being very slow, lethargic and gentle creatures but in fact they are considered to be the most aggressive and dangerous animals in Africa and have even been known to outrun humans at aound 20mph over a short distance.

Habitat:

Seen wallowing in Hippo Lake at Lake Manyara national park, Tanzania.
