Sclater's Myzomela
Myzomela sclateri
-5.43734, 150.121
Field Notes
Description:
A small myzomela at 11cm. Also known as the Scarlet-bibbed Myzomela. Males have a sooty head and upper mantle. Wings are greyish with olive edges, underparts paler and striking red throat and bib. Females a dull olive-brown with pale underparts and no of very little red on the throat.
Habitat:
Very restricted habitat to small islands and islets off New Britain in the Bismark Island Group where it is endemic. Seen in small clumps of costal forest on Ristorf Island in Kimbe Bay.
Notes:
Although not considered under threat, these birds have not been well documented due to their restricted habitat and very few photographs are available. I believe this is a first for this species on PN.
