Field Notes

Description:

Saw 4 of them in the shallow water, usually they are found in solitary. They were quite small in size, around 4-5 cm, moving as though 'courting', so it could be either 2 pairs or maybe 3 Males courting 1 Female.
Pic#1 shows it 'hiding' among the Xenia Corals.

Small fish, up to 7 cm in size.
Mottled brown and gray with irregular white line markings; numerous short skin flaps on body and first dorsal fin.

They camouflage very well among the Xenia Corals, swimming among and between corals. Only more obvious when moving from a cluster of Xenia Coral to another cluster of Xenia corals (Pic#2).
Pic#5 shows how well they camouflaged or mimic the Xenia Corals.

Habitat:

Mostly solitary or in pairs unless courting/mating.
Tends to 'hide' among soft corals especially Xenia Corals.
Coastal and lagoon reefs, mostly in the shallow waters.
