Field Notes

Description:

medium sized duck, similar to bufflehead but clearly not. Never seen it in the seattle area, and a medium sized flock settled in downtown Bellevue, Washington park with not water bodies within a half mile.

Habitat:

settled in urban park

Notes:

would like help with identification. Not in our collection of Seattle area and Audubon bird id books.

Hi, steffjfowler and welcome to Project Noah. Great first spotting. I sent you a suggestion and if you agree with it you can use it to fill in your fields. The three males in the center show all the markings for the American wigeon. They are not yet in full breeding plumage so the sides of their heads aren't bright green just yet.
