Field Notes

Description:

These are tiny bees. They measure about 4 or 5mm.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 5 months into the 6 month rainy season.

Notes:

This shot was taken at night. It is quite rare to encounter a stingless bee that has become lost. I see many honey bees around lights at night. I have noticed that stingless bees usually have their nests closed up for the night before sunset so it is unusual that one would become lost.
