Field Notes

Description:

Tiny weevil of 3 mm in length, shiny black with yellow spots on the elytra. The antennae are straight. I actually thought this was a small Carabid when I first saw it, based on it's behavior. It runs about very fast, flies readily and doesn't act at all like a weevil. The spots are not noticeable without magnification.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
