Your probably correct - I have some similar map lichen pics that I'm still researching. Glad to see you made it out of the coastal marsh and up on a mountainside! HaHa just kidding - I enjoy all your spottings!
Thank you Brian, I suspect the greyed out patches are from previous years which have been deep frozen in the winter and then baked in the following summer sun.
The yellow lichen surrounded by black is map lichen (Rhizocarpon geographicum). - Cool stuff!
