Field Notes

Description:

Curiously shaped fungi - resembling a floppy ear, in particular when older. All samples I found were pointing downwards. Gelatinous on touch, red-brown velvety above and grey underneath (photo 5)

Habitat:

Foothills of Jura mountains range; the floor in wooded area of the town park. Grows on decaying wood - a log I check every year, and always get some surprises... semi-urban Geneva suburb area, valley between Alps and Jura.

Notes:

I've just learned that these are edible - well washed and thoroughly cooked...
