Field Notes

Description:

Brilliantly coloured bird to 20cms. Highly manouvrable in flight. Their call is a high pitched chitter. They tend to come back to rest in the same spot, and they were always on the look out for danger. Their two central tail feathers are elongated and are longer on a male than a female.

Habitat:

Resting on tall dead tree (for the perfect viewing platform) beside estuary at Palm Cove QLD

I have never seen a Rainbow Bee-eater. I know they live around here, but I have just not been in the right place at the right time!
