Hi Keith, Thats why I love this sight too. Lincoln sparrows are similar to the song sparrow, but they tend to be less common and have noticeable buffy coloring on the cheek (malar) and breast. Great spotting. Thanks for sharing it! :)
Thanks. I was thinking Lincoln's Sparrow, but I see now that Song Sparrow is a better fit. Birds aren't really my strong suit. That's why it's great to have help.
Nice spotting! The sparrows are a very tricky group, but as you get more familiar with commonly seen species you can start picking up the slight differences in others. The song sparrow you spotted is very similar to the savannah sparrow. The savannah sparrow has yellow lores and is less likely to be here at this point in the year.
