Field Notes

Description:

This caterpillar measures about 3 cm long and 0.5 cm wide. Its body is a bright green color with some markings that makes it camouflage on the leaves of plants well. The markings on its body are dark colored and don't follow any pattern. But something cool is that if you look closely at the markings, you will see some tiny light color splotches in them. This caterpillar seems to have a "fake face" (as shown in the last pic), where its real head (which is yellow) comes out from underneath the fake green head. Its body is very soft and delicate, and it has tiny yellow legs. Something else is that when I touched its body, two red appendages came out of its head.

Habitat:

This caterpillar was crawling on a plant in the Butterfly Garden at Changi Airport, Singapore. In there, it was not too hot or too cold, and it was late at night.

Notes:

This caterpillar seems to like crawling on only a certain plant and when I looked around, there seemed to be only one of it there. I think that this caterpillar is very interesting, because it has intriguing features, such as the "fake face" and the red appendages that come out of its head when disturbed.
