Field Notes

Description:

Sardines, or pilchards, are common names used to refer to various small, oily fish within the herring family of Clupeidae. Have no idea at all which genus/species this one could be. Strangely, many Divers goes to this place to experience the huge shoal of Sardines numbering in the millions, but hardly anyone really asked for the species/ID :(

Pic#1 shows just 1 Sardine, which was injured, and was struggling when I noticed it. Pics#2, #3, #4 shows just a small part of the big shoal of Sardines.

Habitat:

This big shoal of Sardines have appeared in this area - Pescador Island and Moal-Boal for sometime now. They have been sighted for a few years, then disappeared for a period of time to reappear again. It is not know why disappear, whether they were being fished or just moved away.
