Convolvulvus Hawk-moth

The Convolvulus Hawk-moth is a large moth. It is common throughout Europe, Africa, and Australia, partly as a migrant. The wingspan is 80–105 mm. This hawk-moth's basic coloration is in grayish tones, but the abdomen has a broad gray dorsal stripe and pink and black bands edged with white on the sides. The hindwings are light gray with darker broad crosslines. They can hover in flight, and they have a long haustellum, which is extended to suck nectar when they hover over a flower. When threatened, the moths show the bright coloured bars on the abdomen.
