Field Notes

Description:

Petrel smaller than a normal pigeon. Dark gray above and light below and that has tube vent on the upper curved bill. The only all gray Petrel. This one also has a slight forked tail. Feeds on small fish and crustaceans near the surface. They fly close to the surface and occasionally land.

Habitat:

Petrels are sea birds that spend most of it's life on oceans. Breeding on islands in burrows.

Notes:

Believed to come close to shore from recent storms. About 15 have been spotted along the west coast feeding close to shore. These were spotted from a pier.
