Description:

These catkins contain the seeds of the silver birch tree and when they open later in the year (April to May) the seeds distributed by the wind to other parts of the forest helping to generate more and more silver birch. They appear on the trees just before the leaves return.

Habitat:

seen on a Birch tree overhanging the school playground.
