Field Notes
Description:
High elevation butterfly found in wide open meadows. Large red spots are found on both the ventral and dorsal views of the hindwings. This species is generally more white than P. clodius, which is found in similar areas. The easiest to insure correct identification is to look at the antennae. P. smintheus has stripped antennae, and P. clodius has solid black antennae.
Habitat:
Large sagebrush meadows.
