Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful, octopus-like plant with purple fruiting bodies that resemble tentacles. It grows at the water's edge and is about 2 feet tall. Stems are thin, straight and reedy. These are old fronds that appear sun bleached.

Habitat:

Seen at the border of a non-tidal marsh at Tanglewood Nature Center. The marsh is surrounded by dense, temperate woodland.
