Field Notes

Description:

This is a common european very colourful butterfly, some 5 cm in wingspan. Wings are bright orange with dark-brown and white spots; and brown edges with blue fields on their margins. Two shades of brown underneath (pic N° 4).

Habitat:

This a common Palearctic species, linked to nettle. Here, observed on edges of wetland in an area of mixed use (agricultural fields and some protected wetlands and woods), all located in Geneva lake valley, French side.
