Description:
Also known as Wood Stork or Wood Ibis, this is a large (about 100 cm tall), mainly white stork with a long and slightly decurved yellow bill, and black flight feathers and tail. Breeding adult also has a bright red naked facial skin, an a pinkish tinge on flight feathers.
Habitat:
Common resident in sub-Saharan Africa, and partial intra-African migrant. Always found near water, in marshes rivers, lakes, estuaries. This was actually the only time I observed it in such a large group... Here, in a marshy zone of Abidjatta-Shalla National Natural Reserve. This beautiful reserve consists of two lakes of the Rift Valley lakes system; and is situated on altitude of 1500m and 2000m. Beside the two lakes, the park is mainly savanna and open acacia woodland, with other thorny shrubs and euphorbias; very rich in birdlife (over 300 species recorded) but not so much in other wildlife.
