Field Notes

Description:

Adult bird flying over an uninhabited coral islet.

Habitat:

Tropical mixed forest.

Notes:

Local name is Rakoa. These are rare, but usually pairs are seen; courtship has been observed. The biggest sighting was 3 birds (probably 2 males,1 female). If they nest it will be in coconut trees; they have been observed flying through the forest. Presumably they take unattended chicks as Noddies and Terns gang up to scare them away.
