Field Notes

Description:

Large terrestrial monitor lizard, dark brown in color and some 1,5m in length. Like all varanids, they have a very muscular body, and laterally compressed long and strong tails. The tongue is dark and forked, used as a sensory organ.

Habitat:

Lowlands, generally semi-arid, but here seen close to water points.

Notes:

Once again, I must apologize for the poor quality of photos - taken before the digital era, and from far away they lack some sharpness.
