Description:
A large attractive Orbweaver with long red legs and elongated grey body in the centre of its beautifully constructed web. The spider could have been about 30 mm long with black fangs.
Habitat:
Spotted in a suburban garden.
Notes:
The web was large, complex and intact. Barrier webs as protection for the main web can be seen in pic 3. <br> Family: Nephilidae. <br> Males are very much smaller. <br> The species name "edulis" indicates that these spiders are eaten as a delicacy in some parts of the world like New Caledonia. <br> https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/12586864
